American Missile Crisis
A downloadable game for macOS
American Missile Crisis
Our video game is an alternate history of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Our team has created a game that is a fixed representation of history, this means that even as a fiction game there are still active historical aspects within it. While playing our game you will move your character throughout and around Washington D.C., which was ruined by nuclear warfare. The main objective is to find your family and fight the final boss.
Our guidelines while making this game were to make a historical video game that is playable and to make it within 3 weeks. Within that time we have created a fun game that still has facts about history and accurate settings that came from our sources.
Throughout these short 3 weeks we have been able to produce a winnable game that has dialogue and multiple different NPC interactions available to the player.

Sources
Talk At The Brink: Deliberation and Decision during the Cuban Missile Crisis
This source is where we drew ideas for our main theme. The theme of the game is if this went wrong, in this source it highlights when things did go wrong and how easily this could have turned into nuclear warfare.
Soldiers to Citizens: The G.I. Bill and the Making of the Greatest Generation
This source is where we found the influence for our character and how he is being understood.
Japan at War: An Oral History
This is a primary source of some first hand accounts of Hiroshima. This source helps make our game more realistic and bring in context that creates a sense of history.
Cuban Missile Crisis: The Soviet Story
This source also gave us ideas for our main theme and helped tie in the reality of how the situation could have gone wrong.
The Last Train From Hiroshima
This source gives us insight about the direct blast and radius of the explosion. It gives us an accurate representation of how lethal the initial explosion was.
