The Escape from Alcatraz
A downloadable game for macOS
The Escape from Alcatraz
The game begins with the arrival of Hunter Haunt, a notorious ghost hunter who is known for exploring the most haunted places in America and hunting down ghosts. In the setting of our game in current time, Alcatraz is no longer a national park but seen as one of the most haunted places in the world. However, in reality, there have been reports that the jail is said to be haunted. But Hunter Haunt is on his next mission to hunt down ghosts. Upon his arrival in Alcatraz, he finds himself imprisoned by the ghosts of the prison and needs to find a way out. The game begins with the player being greeted by an orange cat named Traz, who guides you through the tutorial and gives you hints and tips on how to escape. Traz is seen as a companion through the game and is helpful in completing the game efficiently. After figuring out the controls and actions of the game Hunter Haunt is met with ghost of the prison who were past inmates at Alcatraz, and you must work your way through the levels, defeating each ghost in hope of escaping from Alcatraz.
The game is split up into five levels, where on each level you are met with a ghost inmate. Throughout each level, you are trapped in a room, and you cannot escape until you defeat the ghost or negotiate a trade with them with items found throughout the prison. Every choice we made for the game was specific and intentional in order to provide our interpretation of the historical events surrounding the Escape from Alcatraz. Our goal was to take a fascinating and intriguing historical event and turn it into a game that was uniquely ours. The entire game is inspired by the infamous Escape from Alcatraz, taking key details in facts for creating the plot.

SOURCES USED
Source : https://npmaps.com/alcatraz/
These maps show where visitors are able to go when they visit the Alcatraz national park, and they inform our game layouts for where the levels exist. The usage of the existing maps to inform our design allows our layout to be more historically accurate.
Source : https://www.history.com/topics/crime/alcatraz
The source was able to give us a sense of the life that one lived at the prison. It contained information about the background history and the creation of the prison with the environment in which the prisoners were kept in. Helped us in the design behind the characters.
Source: Alcatraz: The Gangster Years, a book written by David A. Ward
Alcatraz: The Gangster Years, a book written by David A. Ward, was used for our game Escape from Alcatraz mostly as a reference for how our characters would act in Alcatraz, as well as how the prison would feel as our ghost hunter wandered around it.
